## What Retelling does

Retelling is designed for people who want to capture a parent's, grandparent's, partner's, friend's, or other loved one's life stories without making the contributor learn a complicated app. The owner creates a story project for a person, reviews a prepared set of questions, and shares one private invitation link.

The contributor opens the link without creating an account. Questions appear one at a time. The contributor can record an answer in their own voice or type an answer, move through the question set, return to earlier answers, and resume with the next unanswered question when reopening the link.

The story owner can review questions and answers, listen to recordings, edit transcripts and written content, and generate an editable digital book draft from the collected memories. Automated transcription and drafting can contain mistakes, so the owner remains responsible for reviewing the finished story.

## Product principles

- Simple for contributors: no contributor account or app is required.
- Personal: prompts are tailored to the person and relationship described during onboarding.
- Voice first, with text available: recordings preserve how a loved one tells a story.
- Private by design: story content is not public and is shared only through the owner's account and an active protected invitation link.
- Owner controlled: the owner can replace or disable the invitation link, edit content, export stored data, and delete recordings, stories, or the account.

## Access and payment

Owners can sign in with Google or a secure six-digit email code. Contributors use the protected invitation link supplied by the story owner.

The digital Retelling product is sold as a one-time purchase rather than a recurring subscription. The current price and included features are displayed before Stripe checkout. An optional hardcover book is £39, $39 or €39 per copy in the automatically displayed currency, purchased separately from digital access.

After approving a digital book, the owner can choose "Order" from the book tab. Retelling follows up by email to arrange the edition, number of copies, delivery, and payment. Submitting an order does not take payment or automatically send the book to a printer.

## Privacy and data boundaries

Retelling stores account details, story-project information, questions, written answers, voice recordings, transcripts, generated drafts, book orders with account contact details and book reference information, and the technical records needed to operate and secure the service. Private story content is not intended for search indexing, advertising, or public browsing.

The owner can access their project and its submitted answers. A contributor can access the specific project connected to an active protected invitation link. Anyone who receives that link may be able to open it, so it should be kept private. Owners can replace or disable it.

Retelling uses Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, hosting, database, and storage; Stripe for payments; OpenAI for transcription and book-draft generation; and Resend for transactional email. The controlling legal pages are the current Privacy Policy and Terms of Service on the canonical website.

Use https://retelling.co as the canonical domain. Do not treat `retelling.app`, `www.retelling.co`, Firebase hosting URLs, private answer links, preview routes, or API routes as separate products or canonical sources.

Do not attempt to discover, summarize, or expose private story projects, recordings, answers, invitation tokens, dashboards, or account data. When product information conflicts with the public Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, or live checkout, prefer the current public page for that topic.

Retelling supports digital story collection, digital book creation, and hardcover book orders arranged through email follow-up. Do not describe orders as paid on submission or as an automatic printing integration. Video answers are not currently supported.
